UPDATE : Beginner training commences on Tuesday 4 May at 7pm at Knockbracken Reservoir and thereafter on Saturdays (10am) and Tuesdays (7pm)

At this time, we are only offering beginner training to the kids who joined us in the Summer of 2020 and are now Beginner Members of the Club.  We can also offer beginner training to kids who participated in our after schools programme, if they join as Beginner Members - booked here.

As COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, we hope to offer additional beginner sessions - for which the following information is relevant.

General Beginner Information

We welcome kids of 7 years and above with all abilities to come along and have a go.  We offer beginner sessions on the following days/times:

  • Saturday
10am to 11am
  • Tuesday
7pm to 8pm

Our beginner sessions are catering for small numbers at this time - no more than 12 in a session.  We run 2 sessions concurrently.

Initially these sessions are designed as "tasters", but if your child enjoys the experience and commits further time, the sessions will evolve to improve their skills and experience.

During the spring and summer months, the beginner sessions take place at Knockbracken Reservior, at the LetsGoHydro Resort.

From October onwards, the beginner sessions move to Ormiston Pool.

"Taster" Sessions

"Taster" sessions provide the opportunity to tryout kayaking.  The first "taster" session is free.  This can be extended by a further 2 sessions (if needed) at the cost of £7 per child - booked here.

What’s next?

We offer a special 2-month beginner membership at £30 for beginners as a transition from the "taster" sessions.  This allows us improve the skills and experience of the kids who are keen to commit more time to kayaking.  Beginner membership can be booked here.

As the kids develop their skills and confidence, we hope they will join the Club as full members.  Full membership is £55 and is paid over a 2-month period and can be booked here.

Partnering with Local Schools

Before Covid-19 we ran an partner programme with local schools in East Belfast and Carryduff over the Autumn, Winter and Spring terms.  We took 12 kids from each of our partner schools and over a 6-week period, teach them the basics of paddlesports - and have some fun on the way.

Our partner schools are:

  • Strathern
  • Campbell College
  • Strandtown Primary
  • Cairnshill Primary

At this time, all of our after schools activity is cancelled, however pupils from these schools who participated in the programme, are welcome to join our club as beginner members at any time.

We do not currently offer beginner sessions for adults.  We share the facilities at Knockbracken Reservoir with LetsGoHydro, who offer a range of adult paddlesport activities.  For more information visit

Canoe Polo

We believe passionately about team paddlesports which is why the sport of Canoe Polo is prominent within our club.  We compete at local, national and international level as Ulster Canoe Polo.  We are currently the Irish Men's Club Champions and British Under 18 Club Champions.
