About Us
Belfast Kayak Academy (BKA) was founded in 2012 with the aim to increase junior participation in paddlesports. Our main activity is Canoe Polo - we play as the Ulster Canoe Polo Club and we are currently Men’s Irish Club Champions and Under 18 British Club Champions.
Male and female members of our club play at international level in Canoe Polo for both the UK and Ireland. We have just competed in the European Canoe Polo Championships and the European Canoe Polo Club Championships.
We also have a programme of canoeing, river kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding.
Our club started on the banks of the River Lagan, but we have now moved to dedicated indoor facilities at Ormiston House in East Belfast and outdoor facilities at Knockbracken Reservoir in Carryduff, where we share the site with the LetsGoHydro Aquapark.
In 2019, we hosted the Junior Canoe Polo International and the Irish International Open in Knockbracken, attracting canoe polo teams from all around the world.
We have an active after schools club, working in partnership with local schools in East Belfast and Carryduff. For more information click here
In 2019 we achieved Clubmark status and were named CANI Club of the Year. Our Under 18 Canoe Polo Team was named Junior Team of the Year at the Belfast Sports Awards in March 2019.
