Beginner Kayaking Update - October 2020
I just wanted to give you a heads-up on our plans for beginner kayaking from October onwards and to thank all the parents/guardians for supporting their kids to tryout kayaking.
We had 110 children engaged in our beginner kayak sessions at Knockbracken reservoir over the August - September period. We had a number of kids come along and try it out over 1-3 sessions and a number of kids who have been actively participating over both months, as beginner members at our club.
From Tue 6 October 2020 beginner kayaking will move indoors to Ormiston Pool, which is in the grounds of Ormiston House in East Belfast. The Pool is slightly smaller than the area we use for beginner kayaking at the reservoir.
Our plan for October onwards is to focus on those kids who enjoy kayaking and want to continue with the sport and are prepared to make a longer term commitment. We will therefore focus on those kids who have become regulars - specifically club beginner members. We will NOT be offering bookable taster sessions until at least January 2021.
This will allow us to develop the committed kids and to introduce them to competitive kayak sport, including Canoe Polo. We will be running beginner sessions on Tuesday and Saturday at the same times you are familiar with - 7pm to 8pm (Tue) and 10am to 11am (Sat).
Some of you are already beginner members so your place at the pool is guaranteed as we move in early October. I will be emailing all the beginner members separately asking for your preferences for Tuesday, Saturday or both days.
Some of our beginner members were previously members of our after school programme. Unfortunately due to Covid-19, we will not be offering an after schools programme this year.
For those of you who are not yet club members and want you kids to continue with kayaking from October onwards, please consider joining the club as a beginner member.
